Kalo

The Frenzy Demon

In Runeterra, Kalo is Madness. There are rumors claiming Kalo was conceived in a powerful ritual performed by a careless mage. Others say Kalo has existed since the very creation of Runeterra, waiting and watching for his time to wreak havoc. Shumarian Legends say Kalo was there when Renekton went mad from Xerath’s games. After squeezing every drop of joy from Renekton’s descent, he moved on to the next poor soul.  The most popular rendition of Kalo’s tale states he was locked away because of the amount of chaos and madness he brought to the world of Runeterra. He was considered too mad and had to be locked away. When Kalo was locked away, there were maniacal screams heard from a distant cave in the mountains of the Noxian Empire. Some say there were sightings of a Giant Catfish leaving that cave, chuckling to himself as if he accomplished something grand.

Or so it’s been said.

One day, a Noxian Soldier reported to his general, claiming he heard maniacal laughter in a cave near the northern border of Noxus. The general disregarded the soldier, believing it was a lone soldier’s cabin fever.

The soldier made rounds in his usual area, hearing the very same laughter his general brushed off as nothing important. The laughter turned into what sounded like a child, begging for the soldier to play. Concerned by the child’s voice, the soldier entered the cave to see what the child wanted. As the soldier walked further into the cave, he was again invited to join the voice, but this time, for an eternal reward. Curious, the soldier crossed the threshold, surrounded entirely in darkness, and dove into a frenzy of madness gnashing at his clothes, repeating “Home, Home, Home!” growing with insanity every repeated word.

While the soldier thrashed at his clothes, Kalo took over his mind. He convinced the soldier to break open the totem as it would make him a God of Battle, revered and amazed by all, including the Noxian Grand General. The soldier’s eyes widened as Kalo whispered more commands into his mind, coaxing insanity to grow. Entirely controlled by Kalo, the soldier violently smashed the Totem against the ground. The broken totem burst into a gust of wind pushing the soldier to the ground, followed by the maddening laughter of Kalo celebrating his freedom.

The soldier was left alone, mad, and unrecognizable from the honorable man he had been before, laughing hysterically in that very same cave.

Kalo roamed the nation of Noxus, recognizing its great potential for Madness. “When there is a nation that springs into a fit of fanaticism at the site of blood, what better a place to become a God?!” As he drove more citizens of Noxus into fits of rage and madness in the executions from the Gladiatorial Reckoners, he thought of something grand. If only he could take over the entire nation of Noxus into his madness, then he would have access to an entire nation of playthings to toy with.

As Kalo grew in power, he also grew in his curiosity to explore Runeterra, eager to see what it had to offer in regards to furthering his maddening power. He wanders Runeterra to this day, feeding on the madness he creates and the joy he receives from it. As the tales of Kalo spread throughout Runeterra, there was one identifier everyone could agree with. Whenever Kalo is near, madness breaks free. As Kalo spread his paranoia across Runeterra in his explorations, he always returned to Noxus for the Natural Madness. Some say that is where he spends most of his time. Others shoot down the tale, as that is seen as the belligerent norm of Noxus.

Or that is what the rumors say. No one truly knows anything for certain.

All that is known is that Madness has come.

Kalo is here to play.
